A good day. A really good day.
Today was kinda special. Nick and I went to 1000 Acre Swamp again today, but it started to rain. Thinking on my feet (we were hicking), I gave Diane a call to find out what the screen times were for Polor Express at a nearby theater. The first show of the day started in 20mins. I swooped Nick up and ran for the car telling him that I had a suprise. We had been talking for some time that I was going to take him to this movie and that it would be a fun "first movie" to go to. So, I didn't want to tell him right off where I was taking him in case there was a let down 'cause we couldn't get there in time.
We arrived and I didn't tell him what we were doing until I knew we would be getting tickets on time. I perched him up on the ticket counter and explained the whole ritual. We walked by the refreshment stand and I knew it was too early for popcorn or candy, but I did see drinks of various kinds that I thought he might like. I offered and he declined. He doesn't fully grasp the whole theater experience quite yet...
We walked into the theater and he was pretty much speechless. I explained to him that it might be loud and if it gets too scarry at all, we can exit easily. You couldn't wipe the smile off his face. "This is a good suprise."
When the previews finally started, after about the second of eight or ten previews, he asked, "Is this Polar Express?". And so, he begins to understand yet another part of the theater ritual experience.
The movie was very good and Nick enjoyed every bit, sitting still for the whole hour and half.
That's a really good day, I say.
